Where is the best place to visit in Turkey?
My boyfriend and I want to go away on our own to a place in Turkey that has a reasonable night life, all inclusive hotels, waterparks and a beach (: any ideas please?

    • ANSWER:
For what you desire, the best option looks like Antalya, but in summer btw. Antalya is in South Turkey, has a long coast to Mediterranean Sea. Also, Antalya is the 2nd most touristic city in Turkey ( 1st is Istanbul), so you can find whatever you want. I don't know the name, but there's a huge water park which is the 3rd biggest in Europe, in Alanya, Antalya. Also hundreds of al inclusive hotels, a nice beach, and a 'reasonable' night life. for more information, i advice you to ask some friends if any of them have been to Antalya, or ask to an agency.

  9. QUESTION:
can any one tell me best places to visit in turky?
I'm planning to visit Turkey in January. Can anyone tell places to Visit in turkey

    • ANSWER:
      Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir and Van.

Istanbul- You can see a really big city on the Bosphorus, check out the touristy stuff, ride across the bridge to asia, do the boat tour, and feel the vibe of the city, eat sticky ice cream, shop in Taksim.
Antalya- Nice resort town. I was impressed. You san party and enjoy the view of the fireworks over the ocean from the balcony of your hotel room, or you can sit on the pier in a comfy beanbag chair and gaze at the stars. Or you can go to the dancing or other things. It's awesome. I love resort life.
Izmir- See the history. Go outside of town and see the Virgin Mary's house, or the ancient ruins of the roman empire.
Van- See some blue and green eyed (one blue, one green) kitty cats. See the ancient Armenian christian church at the island on Lake Van, drive on the roads and see signs pointing to Iran, and see the town.

Turkey is awesome. It's such a mix of rich and poor, old and new. I think even the poor in Turkey are rich in someway and the rich can't have what the poor have experience wise, so in that aspect they are poor. It's so interesting to go to the resorts, and it's just a very lovely country.

Egypt is a very dirty place to visit, and I would not suggest you to buy anything to eat, if you do not want to get some disease, let visiting the country aside. Turkey is known as the cradle of the civilizations, and a very modern country to visit. I am sure anybody could find something that interests him.

  16. QUESTION:
what is the best place in turkey to visit.?

    • ANSWER:
That depends on your interests. Your question has large dimensions that makes it hard to inform you with the best place to visit in Turkey and also to me that "best" is subjective concept and differs from person to person..:)

Having said that, your best place would pretty much be in relation with the season you'd like to visit Turkey, things you'd like to do when you are on holidays and such.

Whether you like cultural tourism which you are interested in knowing the lifestyle of the people, history, their art, architecture, religion(s), and other elements that helped shape their way of life. OR a package holiday; transport and accommodation sold together by an tourism agency. OR an adventurist type of visit where you like climbing, hiking, biking, OR you like Turkish food a lot so your best place to visit be a restaurant. OR you like the pop-culture style, then your best place would be a particular location where almost every second person goes.

I wish I knew what you are looking for "in best" but I could always say that Istanbul is one of the places in Turkey one must visit.

    • ANSWER:
I've been to Turkey four times and a sail from Fethiye to Olympos was the best. The scenery with the mountains meeting the sea is amazing and the small villages you stop along the way not too touristy. It was only 200 dollars per person for a four day sail on a Gullet (a type of Turkish Sailing vessel) when me and my wife went two years ago. The cost includes three awesome Turkish meals a day. There will be about 12 other people (mostly young Europeans and Australians) going along for the sail. Be sure to sleep on a mat on deck. The air is perfect. It was the best sleep I have ever experienced in my life. The old Greek ruins you visit along the way are amazing. The snorkeling and swimming in the warm Mediterranean is just incredible. You will depart near Olympos. Olympos is a ruin of a classical Greek city. There are many tree houses and bungalows to sleep in for about 25 dollars a night (with a huge evening meal and laundry service included in the price). You can also climb the hill at night to see the flaming Chimaera. Natural gas seeps through the hillside causing the blue flames to dance. It is magical. The ancient Greeks thought it was a fire breathing, three headed monster. Another ancient city near Olympos is Phaselis. We flew from Istanbul to the Dalaman airport and from there driven to Fethiye. From Olympos you could easily catch a bus to Antalya. If you had more time I would visit Cappodicia as well. The best time to go is July, August or September, as it is warm and sunny. They other months can be rainy.

  34. QUESTION:
I am planning a trip to Black Sea area in Turkey for August. I need suggestions please on places to visit.?
My family and I are planning to start our two-week road trip from Istanbul and head towards Samsun. We will be passing on Kocaeli, Sakarya, Bolu, Zonguldak, Bartin, Kastamonu, and Sinop. What things do u suggest to do in these areas? Which is the best area among them? In which areas do u suggest that we stay for a few days and which areas to just pass by? What hotels do you suggest? Are there any good resorts of places on the beach to stay in? Do u suggest going to Trabzon or not?
Sorry for my multiple questions and thanks in advance :)

    • ANSWER:
That would be a terrible mistake to miss Safranbolu in Karabük city where would be culturally more important than the destinations you cited above.

You must go to Trabzon and see the Sürmene Monastry. Also you must see Amasra too

If you don't see these 3 destination on your way. I am sure you ll be realy upset.

  35. QUESTION:
Where is best in Turkey, Side (Antalya) or Altinkum?
Me and my partner are going away to Turkey soon and I am wondering what option is best for us. We are a young couple and like the beach etc, but its important for us to visit a place with culture and interesting places to visit. We're not really fans of family's and crowded beaches.

We're on a bit of a budget (£200 - £300) and so far I have identified Antalya and Altinkum as possible places. We did a lot of research into Side and were thinking of going there. However I'm now thinking Altinkum, because it may not be so commercialized?

Which would you prefer and why?
If anybody has any other places (available from Bristol airport), I'd love to hear about them.

    ---

I have a few questions about Altinkum if anybody has visited there:

-Its up in the Mid/ North West, how does the weather compare?

-Is Ephesus going to be near enough to visit?

-We would land in Bodrum, is that far from Altinkum?

    • ANSWER:
Side and Altinkum are both built up with lots of package tourists. The main difference being that Side attracts a lot of Germans, Altinkum mainly British holiday makers.

During the summer the weather will be good in both places, Side will be a bit hotter. Neither will be below 30c (daytime) until sometime in September/October.

From Altinkum it's easy to visit Ephesus, Didyma, Priene and Miletus. All very interesting ancient sites.
Side has an ancient theatre and good museum and is also close to Perge, Aspendos, Alanya and Termessus. Also all worthy of a visit.

The beach is better at Side.

Bodrum airport to Altinkum is about 2 hours or less.

  36. QUESTION:
    Where to go in Turkey?
Hi, I would like to go on a Honeymoon to Turkey and my wife really loves Cold places.. so Which are the best places to visit for honeymoon. We would probably leave at March. I heard it is still cold during March. So can Anyone advice? would also like to go Skiing. Please recommend.

    • ANSWER:
Skiing and cold? You want to go to Austria.

Turkey has AMAZING places to visit. Istanbul is one of the great cities of the world and the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are MUST VISIT locations. The ancient city of Ephesus is on the Turkish coast. Mount Olypmus is a bit farther south (and one of the places I need to visit when I go back.)

For coldish weather, there is Cappadoccia ... a canyon area with inhabited cave dwellings.

I highly recommend a holiday in Turkey. But check your expectations. You're not going to find great skiing there.

  37. QUESTION:
A question about holidaying in Turkey?
I intend to visit Turkey in about 4 months. Preferably around Antalya region. I hear there are many villages there. Can someone tell me where is the best place to go for to see the culture and what is the best way to move around? And the cheapest stay and food of course. lol Thanks!

    • ANSWER:

  38. QUESTION:
Holiday to Turkey. Where is the best place to go for the nicest beaches?
I've looked up Olu Deniz and I want to visit the blue lagoon but I'm told the sand is so course, you'll have to wear sand shoes. I want to visit a beach where the sand is soft, lots of places to eat. Any advice. I've been to Bodrum so don't want to go there again.

Please only answer if you've been before.

P.S - any nice 3 or 4 star hotels or any deals for May?
Forgot to mention - want to stay close enough that it doesn't take a whole week to get to the lagoon

    • ANSWER:
I can't reccomend anywhere but Olu Deniz beacuse its the nicest place on earth!

The beach is beautiful. The sand itself is not course but there are pebbles where the sea meets the beach............on the whole they are quite smooth and you can walk over them barefoot until you get into the water. I don;t wear shoes on the beach.

The blue lagoon is out of this world! There isn't so much a beach there, more small sandy embankments which are quite rough but there are sunbeds and parosols to hire, PLease note that unless you stay a hotel which a its own section at the lagoon, you will have to pay a small fee to get in.

I would say that Olu Deniz is the best place to stay as everything you need is very close by. If you stay in Olu you will be at the most 5 mins walk from the beach, lagoon and lots of amazing places to eat . I have stayed in 4* Club Sun City 3 times, it has the largest pool in Olu and is at the foot of the mountain so gorgeous views whilst swimming! Sun city also has its own section at the lagoon and does provide free entrance and free transport there and back. I would try Thomas Cook for a good deal. The nighlife is good in Olu too, and Hisaronu is only 10 minutes in a taxi/dolmus and thats a real party town.

If you wan to stay out of Olu Deniz I would say that travelling to Olu from Fethiye or Cesme wll take about 20 mins + on the dolmus. Any further away and it will become a trek (we did it 2 years on the run!) We stayed in a place called Calis one year and took over 2 hours to get to the lagoon.................now we always stay in Olu Deniz. It's perfect.

      Hope this helps

  39. QUESTION:
A question about Turkey? Promise top points to best answer! :)
    Hi there,
I am going on holiday to Turkey next week and i was wondering if anyone had any information/advice about the Marmaris area?

    Any good restaurants/beaches/places to visit?
    Good activites?

All answers very much appreciated and promise top points to the best answer!

Thanks in advance and have a good day :)

    • ANSWER:
We are going to Marmaris 25th August, We have been there quite a few times before,

You will find if you travel away from the center of Marmaris, you will find it's much cheaper. The Armutalan area of Marmaris is our favourite
place to go. Lots of lively pubs, and good food. Don't be afraid to say
"No" when you get hassled, We always look at the menu's outside the restaurants, and ask for the prices of drinks, before we go in. and the cost of the kids meals,Doing it this way you have an idea What the bill will be.

I would recommend a trip to the Mud Baths and Turtle Island the round trip will take about 9 hours. The Jeep rides are great. and there are also lazy day boat trips. We book all the trips at once with a Turk called O.J. he operates opposite Shara's Bar, in Armutalan (the more trips you book the more discounts he gives) When booking always ask Are meals included? Will we get picked up from and returned to the hotel? and What discounts? Try a few agents, there are a lot of them taking bookings.

Have a good time, and remember it's going to be HOT believe me

  40. QUESTION:
I want to spend the best time in Turkey!?
I want to plan a trip to turkey with my family in November for about a week or 10 days.. I want to go to Istanbul and visit places such as the blue mosque, hagia sofia, topkapi palace, and the grand bazar..
Is there anywhere else worth seeing in Istanbul?
Anyways my real question is.. I want to visit another close city and I heard bursa and abant r nice,, which one is closer? and which one has better views and places to see? is there any other nice but close city? and does it fit to do all the things I mentioned in a week?

    • ANSWER:
There is a ton worth seeing! Taksim is different, especially if you're not from a big city yourself. I'd go to Prince's Island (you can get there by ferry) rather than go way to Bursa etc. It's lovely, and natural compared to istanbul, and there are different things to do there-although I'm not sure of how it is in November so check ahead of time. I wouldn't try to plan too many places, I was in istanbul staying with a Turkish couple for 3 months and I feel like I was barely there. Have a great time! Turkey is amazing and I keep going back.

  47. QUESTION:
    Greece and Turkey in winter?
My friend and I are planning a trip to backpack through southern Europe for about 2-3 weeks. We want to visit Greece, Turkey, Italy and maybe Morocco too. I know that winter is not the best time to go to Greece (well I actually wanted to travel to Scandinavian countries, but my friend, she doesn't want to freeze to death).

So, these are my questions :
    1. How is the weather in Greece in December?
    2. Are the attractions in Athens closed in winter? Like Acropolis, museums, etc.
    3. I'm planning to visit the islands (Santorini, Crete, and Mykonos). Anyone knows how to get there? I heard there's some kind of islands hopping, is it expensive? How much it costs? For your info, we're really on a tight budget.
    4. Money things : how much money do you think is necessary to save up/bring on a trip like this?
    5. If I can't afford to go to the islands, aside from Athens, which city should I visit?
    6. What's the easiest and cheapest way to go to Turkey from Greece?
    7. What are some must-see places in Turkey?

    Thank you :)

    • ANSWER:
      1. The winter is a great time to visit Greece. Of course you won't be able to swim and the islands may be rather empty, so it won't be a "enjoy-the-sea" vacation, but once you get that straight in your mind, there are plenty of things to do and see. The weather in December is wintery, of course, it may rain or even snow, but there will be nice sunny days too.
      2. All the monuments and archaeological sites will be open, and in fact it is better to visit them in winter, without the summer heat and sun. They close early though.
      3. Visiting the islands in December is not such a great idea. Especially island hopping. Maybe you could go to one big island ( in terms of local population) that won't be so deserted. Like Syros (you can combine this to Myconos, they are close). Or Rhodes (which you can combine to Turkey, they are close too. Chios is also close to Turkey).
      4. I would advise to have about 150 euro each per day to cover all of your expenses.
      5. You can take daily trips or weekend trips from Athens. The best choices are:
      a. Delphi archaeological site - and Hosios Lukas Monastery (don't miss that!). In the winter you can also ski there. 2 hour drive from Athens.
      b. Nafplio neoclassical town and Epidauros and Mycenae archaeological sites. also 2 hour drive from Athens
      c. Mount Pelion, lovely picturesque villages for winter. 4-5 hour drive from Athens, you need to stay 2-3 days.
      d. Zagorochoria, near Ioannina. Also nice picturesque villages, amazing landscapes and the city of Ioannina itself is very nice and historic. Go to the little island on the lake. 5-6 hour drive from Athens, you also need to stay 2-3 days.
      e. Meteora. Amazing experience! Google it to see the huge rocks with the monasteries climbed on top of them. 5 hours drive also.
      f. Aegina. lovely island very near Athens, 1 hour ferry trip from Pireaus. Do visit the ancient temple of Afaia.
      6. Easiest way to go to Turkey: fly to Istanbul, which is a must see place. Cheapest way: probably to take the ferry from Rhodes or Chios, if you are there. You can also take trains and buses but it will be much trouble for you, not worth it, better to fly.
      7. Across from Chios there is an area with very interesting ancient Greek cities - archaeological sites, like Milet, Priene, Efesos, etc. The area across from Rhodes is more summer-type vacation I think. Personnally, I advise you to just fly to Istanbul, the old Constantinople, the capital of 2 Empires for over 1500 years.

  48. QUESTION:
    Gumbet Turkey, currency and trips!?
My 15 year old daughter and I are having our first visit to Turkey on Sunday! Is it correct that I don't need Turkish Money because english is accepted everywhere? I'm feeling anxious about this! Has anyone any good tips for daytrips to take, cost and the best place for booking them? Many thanks, Amanda x

    • ANSWER:
YOU CAN USE ANY CURRENCY IN GUMBET. THERE ARE PLENTY OF CHANGE OFFICE ALL OVER BODRUM IF YOU WANT SOME TURKISH MONEY,

THE TURKISH BATH IS GREAT I SUGGEST THE ONE ACROSS FROM THE BODRUM BUS STATION THEY ARE A PROPER TURKISH BATH(HAMAM) NOT A TOURIST TRAP LIKE THE OTHERS.

THE TUGURTREIS SATURDAY OPEN MARKET IS GREAT YOU CAN TAKE A DOLMUS NO NEED TO PAY FOR A TAXI.

BOAT TRIP IS A MUST I SUGGEST THE JOSHUA BRANDEN YACHT LOCATED IN BODRUM BY THE CASTLE GATE, THEY ARE PERFECT, GREAT FOOD AND NO HASSELING,

DON'T USE THE AGENTS SINCE THEY WILL OVER CHARGE YOU AND THE STREET AGENTS HAVE VERY LOW QUALITY PRODUCTS YOU CAN BOOK EVERYTHING ON YOU OWN.

YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME JUST RELAX AND ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE.

  49. QUESTION:
What do I need to do before going to Turkey?
I'm going to Turkey in a month for an engineering conference. My school is taking care of flights, transportation (to and from the hotel and conference), etc. I'm planning on learning the basics of the language. And I'll be there for a week.

What else to do I need to do? Are there any vaccinations I'll need? Anything I need to watch out for over there? Any places (other than the normal tourist destinations) that I need to visit/see? Where is the best place to exchange money?

Oh, and I LOVE trying new food. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Also, I'll have a lay over in Germany for a few hours; If I want to buy anything in the airport, will I have to convert money to Euros first?
Oh, and I'll be in Istanbul.
    That's kinda an important detail...
    And I'm from the US.

    • ANSWER:
      Hiya,
I'm from the UK and I'm off to Turkey in a few weeks. Before we go we need a few vaccinations including tetanus & typhoid. You'd be best off checking with your doctor as it depends where in Turkey you go as to if you'll need other jabs such as anti-malaria.
Also, when you arrive in Turkey you will need to buy a Visa in the airport. We have to buy ours for 10GBP so it will work out roughly around 20USD.
And if your not from Turkey, I've been told to make sure you don't drink the water, which includes not having ice in your drink.
Hope my little bit of knowledge has been some sort of help.
      Enjoy your trip!

  50. QUESTION:
Which has been the best Country/Place/City you have ever visited and why?
And where have you been most disappointed with?

The nicest place I have ever visited was Budapest. Such a beautiful city, lovely climate (in May). I stayed there for a few days when I was travelling to Romania to do some charity work and fell in love with the place. But also I love Turunc in Turkey for beach holidays.

I was really disappointed with Rome, too touristy, too many beggars, the Trevi fountain is tiny and the colesseum wasn't as grand as I expected it to be. Lovely people though.
Worst beach holiday was Tenerife - horrible place
Ooh not been to kusadasi yet - I will add it to my list of places in Turkey to go to. I've been coming to Turkey for 12 years and it will probably take me about another 40 to see all the wonderful places that people have mentioned.
Blunt I-run - Bologna is where my surname (family name) origiantes from although when the people first came over with this name centuries ago the native English found it difficult to say it so it has changed over the years.
I haven't been to Istanbul yet but I would love to go. If anyone wants to be our tour guide or give us advice /recommendations on where and when to go that would be great!

    • ANSWER:
Why do I have to make one of them 'the best'!
I think New York City is very unique and has a beauty of it's own. If I were young, I would probably spend a few years there. Also Stratford-on-Avon is a beautiful town. Who wouldn't want to live in a town that still breathes Shakespeare :) Cambridge is lovely and I could smell science, culture and education in every street there. I saw some small towns/villages in USA which were beautiful.
Although I wouldn't want to live in it for long, Istanbul is the most enchanting city I have seen. A Turkish poet called it 'the virgin of thousand husbands'. I also loved the towns on the Black Sea coast of Turkey (Unye, Fatsa, Ordu etc.)
